Weekend on Your Chaparral

Aug 12, 2021

When you’ve got a free weekend to take your Chaparral out on the water, Lake Champlain is a sight to see. This natural freshwater lake, located throughout Vermont and New York and crossing into Quebec, Canada, is surrounded by delicious eateries, shopping opportunities, and beautiful paths to explore. Here’s your itinerary for a weekend on your Chaparral.

Things to Do

Park your Chaparral and walk to the Burlington Farmers Market, open on Saturdays from 9 am - 2 pm. You’ll find fresh produce, artisan crafts, and more, with 90 vendors during the summer season and 40 vendors during the winter.

You can also peruse the Church Street Marketplace, an award-winning open-air mall filled with festivals, live music, historical architecture, and shopping. This trip is all about being outdoors, and this market delivers an experience.

Bring your bike and ride through the Burlington Bike Path. This path was once the Central Vermont Railway and was converted in the 1970s, now with views of beaches and parks. Then, grab a bite to eat nearby.

Eateries

There are tons of great restaurants and places to kick your feet up and relax with some good food. If you’re in the mood for crepes, sandwiches, and live music, The Skinny Pancake is the place to be. Come for breakfast and stay for the music.

If surf and turf cuisine is more your thing, then Splash at the Boathouse is for you. From clam chowder to coconut shrimp to chicken tacos and soft-serve ice cream, there’s something for everyone.

Craving more seafood? Shanty on the Shore is another great eatery with lobster bisque, broiled seafood platters, Maine lobster, and signature cocktails.

On or Near the Water

Waterfront Park, a regional park along the Lake Champlain Shoreline, is a great place to stop by for fishing, outdoor fitness, walking, and simply enjoying the water.

If you’re feeling adventurous, Ausable Chasm is another amazing sight to check out. It’s a little bit further out, but it’s worth the trek with rock climbing, tubing, waterfall views, lantern tours, and more to explore.
