10 Boat Activities To Add To Your 2020 To-Do List

Jan 19, 2020

Happy New Year! Our 2020 resolution is to spend more time boating with the people we love. To inspire you to do the same, we rounded up a list of activities you can try this year with friends and family.

Campout

Sleep under the stars on your boat. Check out these five tips to plan a fun and safe boat camping experience. Don’t forget the s’mores!

Catch A Fireworks Show

There’s nothing like watching a waterfront fireworks display from the best seats in the house— your boat! It’s magical to see the colorful sparks fly overhead and reflect off the water all around you; it feels like you’re a part of the action.

Join A Poker Run

Race through a fun-filled day with other boaters as you cruise through a course and stop at designated checkpoints to pick up your cards. Any boat can join in; the goal is to finish with the best hand, not first. The Florida Powerboat Club organizes Poker Run weekends throughout Florida, the Florida Keys and the Bahamas.

#PassTheHandle

Wakeboard legends Shaun Murray and Zane Schwenk created  #PassTheHandle to encourage watersports enthusiasts to share the love and get first-timers up on the water. Help someone learn to wakeboard, water ski, kneeboard or tube and share it on social media with the hashtag #PassTheHandle.

Fish In A Tournament

Fishing tournaments are a great way to meet people and collect some ‘big fish tales’ for your friends. Visit bassresource.com to find bass fishing tournaments around the country.

Plan A Flotilla

Grab your boating pals and bring all your boats to a set destination where you can safely raft up and float the day away. Pack plenty of snacks, drinks and sunscreen for a perfectly lazy day in the sun.

Go Golfishing

We’ll let boats.com explain this one: “This “sport” combines golfing and fishing (as if you couldn’t tell from the name). Here’s how it works: you count how many casts it takes to catch a fish. Then, you pitch an inner-tube over the side of your boat, place a piece of artificial turf on the bow, and count how many strokes it takes to chip a golf ball (use the biodegradable ones, of course) through the tube. Combine the numbers, and you get your score.” Sounds like a blast!

Host A Movie Night

This one is perfect for a family weekend. Hang a white sheet from the bimini and project a movie straight from your iPhone with this portable mini projector. Bring along some cozy blankets and pillows, popcorn, and boxed candy, and you’re all set.

Try Boat-gating

Tailgating on your boat? Yes, please! Check out this list of the best waterfront stadiums, and take your boat straight to the game. Spend some time on deck, then catch a football or baseball game. Plus, you get to skip all the traffic on the way home on the water.

Take Your Boat On A Road Trip

Make this the year you visit a new destination with your boat; hitch up a trailer and hit the road to find new waters. If you need ideas for your boating vacation, the Travel Channel blog shared their top picks for the best boating destinations from coast to coast.

We hope this is your best year of boating yet! Tag us in all your adventures with your Chaparral on Instagram @chaparralboats or use the hashtag #LoveWhereYouLake
